Day 1: Chandigarh – Shimla – Sarahan

We will start from Shimla in morning after breakfast and  drive towards Sarhan. On the way, we’ll cross Wangtu bridge and reach Sarhan  in evening for night stay. If we reach there early enough, we can visit the Sarhan bird sanctuary and Bhim Kali temple. This tour can also begin from Chandigarh.

Day 2: Sarahan – Reckong Peo – Kalpa

We’ll leave Sarhan and drive towards Kalpa village.  This village is famous for it’s meadows and picturesque apple orchards. Reckong Peo is a small town which serves as district headquarters of Kinnaur district and is also the launching pad for most journeys into Spiti valley. Out hotel in Kalpa is nestled between lovely apple and cherry orchards and is a very romantic place to spend an evening in.

Day 3: Kalpa – Puh – Nako – Sumdo

From Kalpa onwards, gradual change in  terrain from green to cold desert landscape of Spiti becomes obvious. Driving for 3-4 hours, we’ll reach Nako village for spending a night. In noon, we’ll visit the monastery in village to observe Buddhist religious rituals of monks who live there. Nako village is famous for it’s lake which is very picturesque . A walk to this lake provides awesome sights of mountains.

Day 4: Tabo

We’ll reach Tabo next morning. Tabo Monastery is among the oldest Buddhist monasteries in India with an history of more than 1000 years. It’s specially famous for numerous priceless artifacts and Thanka paintings. The most famous one is Pillar of a Thousand Buddhas. Tabo monastery is recognised  as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Entry of monastery is made of earthen walls and covered with beautiful frescoes. Total area of this complex is 6300 square meters.  The paintings on wall show different stages of Buddha’s life and tales from Jataka painted in signature Tibetan style. After this, we’ll visit caves in mountains nearby which are used by monks due to their solitude for to meditating and introspection.

Day 5: Tabo – Dhankar – Lalung

We’ll drive towards Dhankar which used to ancient capital of Spiti when it was ruled by kings. Ruins of an ancient castle and a 16th century monastery are main attractions of the town. The town itself is on top of a high mountain which overlooks the entire valley. Dhankar lake is a walk of about 90 minutes from there.
Lalung nearby is a picturesque village  which can be reached by walking. It’s main attraction is the statue of 3 Cornered Buddha constructed with 3 sides to symbolise Buddha observing in every direction. Rinchen Zangpo, who founded almost all major monasteries in Lahaul Spiti region planted a willow tree and asked the villagers to construct a monastery in case the willow tree survived. The tree survived in form a gnarled ancient shape in front of the monastery.

Day 6: Lalung – Kaza – Langcha

Langcha village is among the highest inhabited places in the world at an altitude of 4250 meters. Even the road leading to  the village is among the highest motorable roads anywhere in the world. Travelers on this road get breathtaking views of valley and  waters of Spiti river flowing through it. This path finally goes towards Shilla valley which is the grazing ground for local livestock.
Langcha has two parts,  Upper and Lower village. We will have a typical Spiti lunch there and  visit a 900 years old Buddhist temple. Next destination is Komik whose main attraction is the deposit of ancient fossils  in Langthis Natural Fossil Center. Later, we will visit Komic monastery, which is one of highest monasteries  in world as well as another ancient monastery near Hikkim village which was destroyed in an earthquake in 1975.

Day 8: Langcha – Kaza – Ki Monastry – Kibber adventure holidays in Himalayas

Next morning, we’ll drive on Kibber road visit Ki Monastery located at an altitude of 4120 meters. We’ll trek around  it and see the huge collection of ancient manuscripts and paintings stored in the complex.  Ki monastery belongs to Gelugpa Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Later, we’ll drive towards Kibber village (4250 meters) which is among the biggest villages in Lahaul Spiti region. Area nearby is  a great place for clicking pictures of wildlife . We’ll stay for the night in our hotel there.

Day 9: Kibber – Chicham

Early next morning, we’ll travel across the canyon to Chicham village. Another way of visiting that village is by an adrenaline pumping ropeway called jhoola by locals.It’s a great place to see local wildlife like  blue sheep, ibex, pika, golden cock, Himalayan wolf and others.  If you are lucky, you can spot the elusive snow leopard there.

Day 10: Chicham – Chandrataal

We’ll drive towards Chandrataal Lake and pass Kunzum La pass  which has a small shrine dedicated to Goddess Kunzum. We can either drive or trek to the lake via a 8 km long trekking route. Chandrataal Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes on the planet. It’s water is crystal clear and it looks even more beautiful on a full moon night. We’ll stay in a campsite for the night there.

Day 11: Chandratal – Lohsar – Manali

We’ll leave for Manali early next morning . It usually takes 6 to 8 hours to cover the distance depending upon the traffic. On the way, we may stop at Batal, a famous rest stop for rest and early lunch. After that, well travel through small settlements, Chota Darra and Chatru on way to Rohtang Pass. We’ll stop there for  tea and reach Manali in evening to end this spectacular vacation.
